It’s a slightly uphill 15 minute walk from the town centre to the tranquil Union Wharf, the end of the Grand Union Canal’s Market Harborough arm. The canal basin was once a bustling industrial quarter with barges bringing in and out goods such as worsted cloth, grain, bricks, beer and coal. A striking reference to the past is ‘Frank the Plank’, an art installation and sundial designed and made by the Old Union Canals Society.
